Chapter 33. Open Mind
Lilly’s POV
“That was intense,” I muttered as we left Lex’s office. He seemed extremely curious about Sade. I had answered his questions as truthfully as I could, but there were some I couldn’t address.
Zack appeared to be a bit irritated with him. Most of the time, Zack remained silent, just patiently listening, but his expression conveyed a different message.
I glanced over at Zack, who was still fuming slightly, his jaw clenched tight.
What was his deal?
It was as if he had grown protective of me in a single night—and he didn’t even know me. Maybe there was more to his anger than just the questions being asked. I couldn’t shake the feeling that Zack had his own reasons for wanting to shield me, and I wondered what hidden layers lay beneath his tough exterior.
“Hungry?” Zack suddenly asked, and my gaze shot up.
“Starving,” I admitted, feeling my stomach growl at the mention of food.
He chuckled, and my face flushed red.
