Ramon POV
I shoved the thoughts away violently, disgusted with myself. But they kept creeping back, insidious and persistent.
Around two in the morning, my phone rang. I carefully extracted myself from Lake’s embrace and grabbed the phone, seeing Rhodes’s name on the screen.
I slipped out of the bedroom and into the hallway before answering. “Rhodes? What’s wrong?”
“I couldn’t sleep,” Rhodes said. “Ramon, I’ve been thinking about you, about what you’re going through. How are you holding up?”
The concern in his voice was my undoing. “Not well,” I admitted, my voice cracking. “Rhodes, I did something tonight. Something terrible.”
