Lake POV
I woke up to sunlight streaming through the guest room window and immediately knew something was wrong.
The bed beside me was empty.
“Ollie?” I called out, sitting up quickly. Maybe he’d gone to the bathroom. Maybe he was downstairs with Troy and the kids.
But something in my gut told me that wasn’t it.
I threw off the covers and checked the bathroom. Empty. I looked under the bed, in the closet, behind the door—all the places a five-year-old might hide.
Nothing.
My heart started beating faster as I ran downstairs. “Ollie? Baby, where are you?”
Troy was in the kitchen making breakfast. He looked up, surprised. “Lake? What’s wrong?”
“Where’s Ollie?” I asked, my voice rising. “Is he down here with you?”
“No, I thought he was still sleeping with you.” Troy set down the spatula. “Lake, what’s going on?”
“He’s not in the room,” I said, panic creeping into my voice. “I can’t find him.”
