Chapter 18. The Enemy

Soule, the Northern region.

Edward’s eyes fluttered beside Kailani as a ray of sunlight flickered over his face. He had looked forward to having her like this, sleeping soundly beside him, for the last three years. It felt almost like a dream, but it was as natural as it was ever going to get.

He will not leave again. He couldn’t make her that promise because he had broken it the last time, but he never will. The promise this time was for himself, and he will never leave.

A light moan left Kailani’s mouth, and Edward’s attention moved to her, and he found her slowly waking up.

Her eyes landed on him, and though still sleepy, they narrowed at him. “What are you doing already awake?”

“You are beside me; I think it is wrong to let this much perfection go to waste all in the name of sleep.”
