Chapter 38. The Shift
“Do you need me to leave?”
“No,” she shook her head and cleared her throat. “it’s just a lot of things have happened in the past weeks and I don’t think...” her voice gave up halfway through and her eyes blurred up.
“I would like what I see on you?” his eyes stayed on her as he finished her sentence.
She whimpered and bobbed her head. “It’s all a nightmare I wish to wake from, but I can’t. I don’t like how I’ve become.” a painful tear ran down her face.
“How you’ve become is a testament to your survival. It’s something you should be proud of.”
More tears rolled down her face, but he pulled her to himself for a tight hug.
“I love you, Mia, and I love everything about you. Nothing is imperfect to me,” he told her, his voice holding the truth in his words, hoping she’d hear it too.
They pulled apart. “Help me,” Mia mumbled, and he knew what she meant. He guided her towards the bail of water and drifts the hand of her now dress off her shoulders
