Ruby’s POV
Back at home, I entered the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water, placing it on the counter. I focused on it, trying to move it with my mind, but it stayed put. Did I accidentally push the alarm earlier this morning? I sighed in exasperation.
‘What do you think happened?’ I asked Ria.
‘I can feel another magical talent trying to emerge within me, but I can’t grasp it. Let it be for now. It will resurface when it’s ready,’ she replied.
I went to my room to take a shower and relax, but I couldn’t relax. I called Beth, but she didn’t answer, so I texted her instead. I grabbed my wallet and left the house, but luck wasn’t on my side. I spotted Cindy about to open the door to the room next to mine—Tate’s room.
“Rue,” she forced a smile.
“Yes,” I returned a forced smile.
“Where’s your brother? He didn’t come home last night and isn’t answering my phone calls,” she said, her brow furrowing.
“I don’t know,” I shrugged, strug
