Even when I met his eyes, he didn’t stop what he was doing. “Took you long enough,” he said. I turned to lay on my back, and he settled onto the bed, sitting upright.
“How long have you been here?” I asked, my voice soft, still heavy with sleep.
“Long enough to fall asleep and wake up,” he replied, and I immediately sat up.
“You didn’t even take your shoes off,” he complained. I glanced down at my feet—they were bare. I guess he had taken them off for me.
“How many hours have I been asleep?” I asked. He glanced at the clock on the sidetable next to the bed.
