Elara’s POV

“We have bad news, Alpha,” Ronan said.

I was in front of him before the sentence ended, pulse thrumming. “What happened? He won’t agree to join the war? He hates me that much?” I asked, but those weren’t the answers I feared.

Nyx was already snarling inside me, pacing like a caged beast. She was also feeling the same way.

“The Mooncrest Pack… it was…” Ronan started.

“Was what?” I snapped, my voice slicing through the air like a blade, unable to handle the suspense any longer.

Nyx roared, “Talk. Dammit.”

“It was empty when we got there,” he said before lowering his eyes.

My breath caught. The words didn’t make sense.

I staggered back a step before Kieran’s hand shot out to steady me. I didn’t realize I’d stopped breathing until he pressed his palm against my lower back.
