Nate's POV

I should have known that Hannah would have something to do with all of this. Who would have thought that she would ever be standing against me in every way like this?

Intrigued, I approached cautiously, the faint scent of danger prickling my skin. As I drew nearer, the murmurs crystallized into recognizable voices, one unmistakably belonging to Marcus.

“...can’t risk it, Marcus. We need to act swiftly,” a voice urged, its urgency slicing through the night air. I knew that was Hannah. I had hoped that all of this would not be intertwined but it seems there is no escaping it.

Marcus’s response was clipped, his words heavy with an intensity I hadn’t heard before. “I know, Hannah. We have to be careful. We can’t afford any mistakes.”

“I know, Augustus has promised his support as long as you can give him everything he wants.”

“You do look more beautiful than I imagined you would be.”

Hannah cleared her throat, “I don’t
