Nathan’s POV

I felt overwhelmed by pain. It was like someone had reached into my chest, pulled out my heart, and held it up in front of me a la Mortal Kombat.

“Nathan. Nathan,” Samuel said, and shook me.

I looked at him in a daze. I heard sounds coming from him, but couldn’t make out the words.

“For fucks sake, Nathan,” Samuel yelled, “Snap out of it.”

The force in his voice cut through the fog. I looked around the room, and the only people left in the boardroom were Samuel, Samira, and me.

“Captain James is on the roof with the helicopter,” Samuel declared. “You'd better head down to your office and change.”

“Thanks, Samuel,” I said, racing out of the boardroom towards my office.
