Mabel POV
My heart pounded at each kilometer I covered for reasons I couldn't place.
Though I knew it was wrong, I pulled out my phone and dialed his number again. And yet again, he didn't pick up.
C'mon, Alec. I said I'm sorry... just want to talk.
I fought back the tears and lowered my phone in the cupholder, then gripped the wheel tighter.
At long last, the Green Oak mansion appeared ahead.
I stepped on the brakes as I approached the gates, then honked.
The intercom at the gate beeped. “Please, wind down and show your face.”
Quickly, I did as told. “It's me, Mabel Parker.” I even turned on the (inner car) lights.
