Zavian’s expression didn’t change. “Drink!” His voice was firm and commanding.

Something in his tone made Emmeline comply without argument.

She placed the straw back in her mouth, taking another sip while Zavian did the same.

Their faces were only inches apart as their eyes met over the rim of the glass.

“Do you like it?” he asked, pulling back just enough to speak.

Emmeline smiled. “It’s delicious,” she said. “Especially when I get to look at you while I drink it.”

Zavian’s lips curled into a smile. “We should’ve done this sooner.”

She nodded. “Definitely.”

They leaned in again, sipping from the milkshake like two carefree teenagers.

Zavian leaned across the table and took her hand in his when they pulled back to intertwin his fingers with hers.

“It’s fun to date like this. Like any two normal people. You’re a young woman, baby. You deserve a man who can keep up with you.”
