As we finally reached the safety of our home, frustration and anger consumed me. I couldn't help but unleash a string of curses aimed at Fredrickson for his heartless act of abandonment. The betrayal felt like a fresh wound, reopening with each passing moment. But before I could vent my anger further, Damon gently covered my lips with his hand, silencing me.
"Elysia, we need to be cautious," Damon whispered, his eyes filled with a mix of concern and determination. "We can't let anyone know what we've been through just yet. We need time to figure out an alternative to pay Fredrickson his money."
I took a deep breath, realizing the gravity of Damon's words. It wasn't just about our survival in the physical sense; we also needed to protect ourselves from the consequences of our recent ordeal. Going public with our story could lead to further complications, exposing us to potential danger or interference.
Nodding in agreement, I removed Damon's hand
