The Disturbed Meeting

Rose was looking at me with a confused and heartbroken expression, and why wouldn’t she? I have tried my best to maintain my distance from her this morning. I thought we could stay like strangers in the same house, but that was extremely difficult.
I have been so cold and calculated towards her I barely replied to her, and she surely noticed it and felt extremely conscious about it. But I have to do this in order to push her away from me, at least emotionally. Because physically, I have to ensure she is around me all the time so I can make sure she is safe and sound.
“Now, if you don’t mind, I would like to leave for the office. There is money and a card in the top drawer of your room. You can buy all the necessary things you want for your college,” I said dismissively, even though I noticed the heartbroken expression on her face.
“Will you be home for lunch?” she asked hopefully.
“No. I have important meetings
