Chapter 11

I hardly slept that night. I couldn't get Alpha Blackmoon out of my head and I was heartbroken.

Then he took my phone from me. The Mindlink no longer worked at this distance, even though I was still in my father's pack. Luckily I wasn't included in Alpha Blackmoon's pack, that was the last thing I wanted. Not at all after the last experiences.

In the morning I stayed in bed because I had lost my motivation. I was practically finished. Who would have thought that the Mateband could get you down like that? Well, you only knew that when it happened to you.

My thoughts were interrupted by a knock, and I automatically called out, "Come in!" I looked at the door, expecting Melody, rather it was a great hope in me.

A little relief flooded through me when a smiling Melody walked through the door. So I was right.

"Good morning, Layla." Her voice mirrored the expression on her face. She seemed to be in a good mood and I kindly replied, "Good morning Melody." I tried a smile, but it never reached my eyes.

As she walked to the windows, she asked, "How did you sleep? I hope so.” I sat up and stifled a sigh as I replied, “You're ok, are you?”

Melody was kind enough to open the curtains slowly so they wouldn't trauma my eyes. She casually replied, "Thanks, fine." Yes, judging by her smile.

She started to grin and asked, "The Alpha only grounded you for yesterday, didn't he?" I saw what she was getting at and now my smile was genuine. "Yes."

She clapped her hands and I moved to the edge of the bed. She said, "Then get changed. We'll start a tour and I'll show you around a bit." That was a very good idea, which is why I finally managed to get up even with motivation. So at least I had something to do for the day.

Lilia grumbled: "I want to see Xavier, I miss him." How nice, I had the honor of discussing with my she-wolf. Annoyed, I replied: "Lilia, shut up. As soon as you find out that we are being sold, encapsulate you. I haven't heard from you at all, even though I needed you. But now you're coming back? No thanks. I'm mad."

I went over to my closet because I had plans and I had to be clothed for that.

"Don't be such a damn bitch. I was hurt as well. Is there anything worse for a wolf than never finding his mate? Our mate bought us." I heard the grin in her voice. Lilia hadn't given up hope. She was far too naive.

I sighed and arrived in my closet. I didn't care what I wore. I just grabbed the first thing I could find.

Now I should try to distract myself. Melody seemed like a very cheerful person, which might help. It was worth the try.

I was dressed quickly, which is why I came out of my closet shortly afterward.

Melody was making my bed, so I said, "You don't have to do this, Melody." Indignantly, she replied, "Sure it is. That's my job, let me do my job. Enjoy, it's hard enough for you."

She had no idea. She knew I had been sold, but not that Alpha Blackmoon had turned out to be my mate. I quickly pushed the thought aside and tried to suppress it.

As Melody was just finishing, I went to the door of the room and said, "It may be your job, but thanks anyway. That's kind and nice. But now, please, let's leave this room."

I opened the door and heard Melody laughing behind me. I ventured into the aisle and there was no one to be seen, which was good. I didn't want to see a single other person and have my peace. Of course, the blonde next to me was excluded.

I looked at her and Melody offered me her arm. I hooked my arm and off we went. With her by my side, I felt a little safer. I probably wouldn't have dared to leave the room alone.

Melody grinned broadly and said, "We'll stay on the property for today. But in the next few days, I will show you the city. You're gonna love it, Layla. It's really beautiful."

I was excited and looking forward to that. Exploring a new area sounded interesting. Apart from the fact that it was a very good pastime.

I just nodded and Melody continued: "The first step is breakfast anyway." Everything froze inside me because a bad thought came to me. Hopefully, Alpha Blackmoon was out or somewhere else just not having breakfast.

I needed the question answered, so I asked it, "Alone, right?" My heart started racing just thinking about this man. Who knows what mood he was struggling with today?

"Unfortunately yes, the alpha left the house early this morning." Somehow that relieved me, but somehow not. I was in pure chaos.

Melody must have thought it would bother me if he wasn't there. Unfortunately, there was no other way to explain it in her sentence.

We were already going down the stairs and I answered: "No, I would even prefer him not to keep me company. Will you at least have breakfast with me?" I was hoping for a yes, otherwise, I was at the mercy of my thoughts.

She hesitated for a moment, but finally answered: "I'm not allowed to do that." I was certainly able to convince her otherwise. "Come on. Alpha Blackmoon isn't here. Otherwise, it hardly bothers anyone." I elbowed her slightly in the side to tug at her. Melody sighed and replied, "Okay." I smiled, I had what I wanted and it had been a lot easier than I thought.

At the bottom, we turned left and I looked around a bit. Who knows how long it took to get used to this house?

We were already in front of a door, which is why Melody pulled my arm away. Of course, she opened the door for me and motioned for me to come in. I did as I was told and said, "Thanks, but it's still a bit much." Especially if you weren't used to it. I actually asked myself the general question of what you needed your own servant for at all.

When you entered the room, there was a counter immediately to the left. However, my gaze quickly wandered on and the most striking thing was definitely the massive wooden table. It was a long table with matching chairs around it.

There was a high probability that there was a seating order, so it was better for me to stop and ask.

Before I could get to it, Melody had passed me and pulled out a chair for me. I sighed and said, "Is this necessary? Don't get me wrong, it's really nice, but I'm overwhelmed with it."

She laughed and said, "Okay, and I'll admit that I might have done that with the chair to annoy you." I glared at her, mockingly angry, and sat down in my seat.

There was no further conversation, for a man entered. He's probably only a few years older than me. He greeted me with a friendly smile and I returned it.

Apparently, I had found another nice person. It went uphill, if I stayed away from Alpha Blackmoon, it could stay that way.

Already he introduced himself: "I'm Franklin, but just call me Frank." His first impression was positive and Melody greeted him happily, which made me assume that she liked him.

With a slight smile and a friendly tone, I replied, "Nice to meet you. I'm Layla." He laughed and said, "Yes, I know that. Melody has already told you about you. She was very excited."

I looked over at her and she blushed all over. "Yes, but nothing bad. Really not, Layla." Now I had to laugh, she was way too cute. Somehow it was hard to imagine that she could gossip about you.

To reassure her, I said, "Don't worry. I didn't expect that." That's probably why Frank was so relaxed with me. Melody had told him about me and I couldn't be described as an unfriendly person.

Frank cleared his throat and that got my attention again. He followed up his job by asking, "Anything in particular for breakfast? Or just the classic?"

For a moment I had to think about why I was wondering what the classic should be.

Whatever it was, I didn't want to be a nuisance or a diva, so I replied, "Classic sounds perfect."

He nodded at me and asked the next question: "Coffee? Tea? Or something else? We have everything in the house that your heart desires." He might be exaggerating with that, but Frank had definitely made me laugh with it. After that, I replied: "Coffee would be great and water." At the end, he saluted me and said: “Of course. I'll be right back."

He made his way and I was a bit surprised. The reason why I looked at Melody and asked: "Do they always serve you here?"

She shrugged and explained, "It's a big house, you have to have that. Then the alpha has a very large territory, he has enough work. You don't have time for that anymore. That would be too much stress."

It all sounded logical. With this territory, you had a lot of work.

Since she was still standing, I pointed to the chair across from me and said, "Sit down." "No, that..." I interrupted her seriously, "No, you sit down." I was the daughter of an Alpha. Den I had the command tone.

She hesitated briefly but finally sat down. I couldn't resist saying, "Good." She gave me a shy smile and I continued, "It's weird when I'm sitting and you're standing. Plus, it's more comfortable for you, too."

Melody couldn't reply because the door opened and Frank appeared. The meal went very quickly.

The classic was bread, with different toppings and spreads. It was too much for one person, but I wouldn't show it because somehow that would feel rude.

I thanked him and Frank replied, "I'd love to. I'll let you have breakfast, if anything, Melody can call me." Sure, they were connected in the Mindlink.

Frank left the room and I sighed. I wasn't really hungry, but I wanted to try.

Melody snapped me out of my thoughts when she said: "First I'll show you the garden. Fresh air is good and you'll like it." I spread a piece of bread, which would be a logical action at breakfast, and answered, "That sounds good."

Melody sounded elated, so she thought it was a very good idea. I would do my best and try to be in a good mood. I didn't want to be the grouch and spread my bad mood. No matter how I looked.
