Chapter 12
Melody took me through the garden and it was beautiful, no question. But I couldn't concentrate. My mate was constantly on my mind. The whole thing bothered me and I was much too restless inside.
I didn't catch what Melody was talking about. It was more of a background noise for me. Her good mood didn't reach me one bit.
Since it was a huge garden, it became a long walk. At least the fresh air was good and stretching your legs was just as good.
Lilia struggled through and it was already annoying me. "Layla, the garden is endlessly boring. I want to see Xavier."
I gritted my teeth to keep from completely freaking out. Controlling myself, I managed to calmly ask, "Do you have brain trauma? The man doesn't want us anywhere near him. He'd probably rather die than see us."
I got the following convincing answer: "That's not true and you know it. He just doesn't handle feelings well. Xavier has to get used to it first."
Could you kill the inner wolf? Yes, I was ready to ask myself this question seriously. She lived in her own fantasy world and was firmly anchored there.
"Fantasy world? You live in one and I don't." Unfortunately, the lunatic could even hear my thoughts when she was really intrusive. We had found our mate, he was nearby. Something like that gave strength to the wolf and they had more to report. I saw that all too well with Lilia.
" Lilia, just shut up and don't make it unnecessarily difficult for me." I couldn't utter a friendly tone this time. The barrel was about to overflow.
Stunned, she asked: "Unnecessarily difficult? You're making it unnecessarily difficult for us. Xavier can't resist the mate band. You'll see, he'll be looking for us soon." That didn't make me happy, more like horror. I didn't want to see him, he scared me too much for that. I snapped at her, "Lilia! This could be our last encounter with him. He might kill us!" I wouldn't put it past him because it sounded very realistic.
Lilia said annoyed, "Don't overdo it. Our mate would never hurt us on purpose." "Wake up! Only when the mate band is complete would he not be able to hurt us anymore. Very good, besides, he already has. Open your eyes!"
My wolf should turn on her brain and consider the facts. The mate's madness had hit her completely and held her in its clutches.
I was elbowed lightly in my side and my gaze snapped to Melody. She laughed and I immediately said, "I'm sorry. Lilia is all hyper." She nodded understandingly and replied, "It's okay. You're in a new environment. Everyone would be excited. It's also a very nice garden. I can understand your wolf." If only Melody knew. But that wasn't the reason for Lilia's behavior.
She had a smile on her face, pointed to a bench, and asked, "How about we sit down and take a break? There you can enjoy the beautiful view over the garden." I would play, so I nodded. Maybe it would help or distract me.
At least I had my peace from Lilia. For the moment she held back. It was probably even clear to her that it would be sensible to make friends. "More like the rest of our lives. We're not leaving here, Layla."
Why again did I think she would shut up? Of course, she didn't. How stupid was I to believe something like that?
Lilia replied, "Now let's not be insulting. Otherwise, you're welcome to chat with me." Inwardly, I took a deep breath and tried to keep my nerve. "Yeah, but not if you're like a lunatic, and you are right now."
"Layla the drama queen." That was just before it escalated. We were on very thin ice when the bomb went off and on my part. "This conversation is going nowhere. Now shut up." She growled but finally shut up.
Thanks, I was able to focus on Melody. I looked over at her and she was looking straight across the garden. So she hadn't noticed how absent I was again. Very good, I didn't mean to be too rude. I had to put Lilia on a leash better.
A conversation would be good, otherwise, you couldn't make friends. So I asked, "How about the morph? I have to let Lilia out at some point or she'll go nuts." Which she was basically already doing, but that was more down to Alpha Blackmoon.
"Hmm, that's a good question for you. The alpha has to decide that. Unfortunately, I can't give you any precise information." That was a problem.
Lilia said enthusiastically: "A very good reason to see Xavier." I couldn't help but growl at Lilia and said, "He's not even here. Besides, he's very welcome to stay away."
Of course, that didn't impress her one bit. "But Xavier will come back at some point. Then we should go see him immediately. It's a logical question and would interest every werewolf." It was pointless, I had to give that up. I compulsively locked them out and hopefully, it stays that way.
I cleared my throat and replied, "Ok, I'll have to ask him that then." No, I never would. I preferred to stay in my human form forever. Which I actually wasn't able to do. I would turn the wheel myself, not just Lilia. It was called a tricky situation.
Melody said: "I'll let you know as soon as the alpha is home. Then you can ask him right away." I waved it off because it was unnecessary. "No, I'm fine. It's not that urgent."
I would delay this conversation as long as I could. I had no desire to die. That could still come, but for the moment I didn't feel it.
"How is it here otherwise?" Melody immediately gave me a big smile. Basically, that already gave me an answer, but she remarked, "You're going to love it. I'll show you around the city in the next few days. It's really a beautiful area. It's a big change for you, but I'll help, wherever I can." She was clearly a good soul and I returned her smile. "Thank you, Melody. You are a great help to me." She nudged me lightly with her shoulder and laughed lightly before replying, "Not for that. I like doing it."
There is a high probability that she was well-paid for her job. She definitely wanted to keep it. As long as she was nice to me, she could keep the job. But it seemed real, Melody didn't strike me as an actress. One could always be wrong, but I thought it unlikely.
I saw the group and wanted to take a closer look at the garden. This site was beautiful and had something peaceful about it. It was a pleasure for the eyes.
Two gardeners were at work tending the plants. That must have been an incredible amount of work if you had to keep all of this in order.
There were many trees, bushes, and a sea of flowers. They lined the way and were otherwise distributed. Everything had a pattern and its place. There was not a bit of disorder in this garden. Probably not a single w**d was found on this property.
Melody snapped me out of my thoughts when she asked, "How was it at your house?" It was a good topic that distracted me.
So I told her about the Finns and my brother, and I didn't leave out my mum either. Melody was curious and pushing her, I told her about my father and my two sisters. The three were a bad subject and she quickly realized that. So it was kept short, which was fine with me.
Then she told me about herself. She came from a large family and had twelve siblings. That was a utopian number, I felt sorry for her parents, but they had chosen it themselves. I didn't have to feel sorry for them.
As a large family, the parents hardly had any time for their children, which was no wonder. It must have been very difficult to reconcile all of this. It was probably impossible.
Melody was in the middle and the sixth child. As a result, she often had to look after her younger siblings. Her job at Alpha suited her well. So she kept her distance and earned good money. She gave much of her salary to her family because they depended on each other. However, that was sad. The parents had so many children that they could no longer manage themselves.
You could see how happy she was to have this job. Melody called it a break from the stress of her parents. But I could understand the stress. My father and my two sisters had enough of that.
She hardly knew her eldest siblings. They quickly moved out and went to work. You saw what it was like in large families. You didn't even know all your siblings. It was hard to imagine, but that was the reality.
In the middle of a sentence, Melody fell silent and I looked at her questioningly. What did she have now? Did I miss something? Apparently.
Then her eyes fell on me and very seriously. That was never a good sign, which made me feel uneasy.
"The Alpha is back, but he disappeared into his office straight away. It probably wouldn't be a good idea if you bothered him right away." I looked at her in horror and asked, "Why should I go to him?" That was pure madness, I certainly didn't face those guys voluntarily.
Melody looked at me confused and explained: "Well, you wanted to ask about the transformation." Exactly. I had forgotten that again. "No, no. There's no rush. I'm not causing unnecessary stress." She smiled and nodded, "It's okay."
To steer our conversation in a friendly direction, I said, "Tell me a little more about yourself." Melody shook her head and replied: "No, enough about me. My family isn't that exciting either. It's more chaotic with lots of children and..." Silence again and this time it made me very nervous.
Melody cleared her throat and looked at me. "The Alpha wants to see you. I'll warn you, he's upset that you're not in your room."
And my heart stopped.
