Vito’s smile widened, his eyes gleaming with malice. “No one is coming, Anna. It’s just you, your family, and your fate.” His tone was firm as he locked eyes with the girl.
The more he stared at her, he saw that she had her mother’s eyes and looks. A pang of guilt hit his heart, but he quickly blinked it away.
Armano stood silently beside his father, his mind a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. He glanced at Anna and her family, their faces etched with fear and defiance. His heart ached for Carlos, his younger brother, who stood trembling but resolute.
He really wanted to do something, but all his life, he had stood by his father’s side and been the perfect son. He could not become a failure now.
“Prepare them,” Vito ordered, turning his attention to the guards. “We need to make sure everything is ready before we start the show.”
