Chapter 17. Telling His Parents About Max
Cassandra’s POV
“Yes, Mom I know. There’s something all of you should know about me,” I said as I looked at everyone. “I have a son. He’s 18 months old. When I was 18, a notorious police officer abused me. I had just lost my father to leukemia and was coming to terms with being an orphan. He took advantage of my disturbed state, sp*ked my drink, and abused me. Later, when I got pregnant, he threatened me and refused to take any responsibility.” I blurted out everything truthfully. Feelings of shame and guilt washed over me and I couldn’t meet their eyes. Instead, I waited for the hatred and judgemental remarks that would come my way.
“Didn’t you lodge a complaint against him?” asked Dad, looking worried, making me look up at him. I was startled that he just asked me that, but I shook my head. I was too scared to take any action with no one to support me.
