Chapter 19
His light eyes were inscrutable, heavy, and when our gazes met I startled, feeling a ripple of self-consciousness go through me as the weight of his gaze pressed down. Somehow my hands remained stable, and I managed to drop the omelet before arching a questioning brow at him as I moved to pull out my ear buds. My upbeat music was replaced by the stifling silence of our apartment, and I grimaced.
“Good morning,” I greeted, breaking an eggshell in half and he replied in kind, peeling himself away from the wall and making his way to the kitchen counter.
It was a struggle to keep my eyes trained on his face and not the sweat stained fabric of his gray tank top and tapered sweatpants. He had on a pair of sneakers, and a towel sat loosely around his shoulders which made me want to slam my head down on the counter when I realized it hadn’t crossed my mind to consider that he may have been working out and not sleeping in as I’d imagined earlier.
