Chapter 57. Family Meal

I watch Marco disappear into his office. Opting not to follow as I know he will be on a business call, I walk towards where his family are.

Dario stands smiling.

"We have been ordered to ensure you eat Miss Salvadore. Food will be ready soon." I nod to the woman and watch her walk away. Moving, I sit next to Iz.

"Want to hold her?"

I turn to Matteo and shake my head. Babies and I don't go well, I think, anyway. I laugh slightly. "I would probably drop her."

He rolls his eyes laughing. "Highly unlikely, here." He moves and passes her to me. I manoeuvre her into my arms until it feels right. She stays asleep the entire time, not phased by being moved.

Smiling down at her, I consider Rose and how old her baby would be now. Guilt burns me as I realise it's my fault she is dead. It's my fault that her baby never got to live. If we had told our father, would he have been more considerate in ordering my death?
