“I’m not ready,” said Aria, as they entered a restaurant Emily had bought out for the evening.

“What’s the deal with you and her anyway? When I met with her-”

“You met with her?! Why? What did she tell you?”

Troy raised a curious eyebrow and Aria piped down. He slipped his hand into hers. She looked down at their joined hands.

“I was going to say that when I met with her, she seemed genuinely concerned for you.”

But Aria wasn’t thinking about Emily anymore.

“You just go for it, don’t you?”

“Is there some reason I shouldn’t be?”

She thought for a moment about everything that had happened since she’d arrived in Caines. Aria the woman didn’t have an answer for him, but she wasn’t just some girl who was finally with someone who seemed to like her as much as she liked him. She was a queen standing in front of her future king. Aria intertwined their fingers and squeezed his hand.

“Not anymore.”
