[Flashback continues]

Shouting outside caught my attention. The door in my room is slightly open.

“Jillian, I didn’t raise you like this!” Mom shouted like a lion, furious.

“She stole Paolo from me! Why are you mad at me? Hale is my fiancé, Mom! You know—”
