Chapter 12
I nodded my head, speechless with shock.
When I was able to recover my voice (and coordination, because I was very amazed), I commented:
“That’s why I heard you make your calls in so many languages in the afternoon. You were talking to people from other clans!”
He didn’t like finding out that I was listening to him, but could he blame me?
“That’s how it is. And, like I told you, in forty-eight hours they will come for us,” he confirmed, with another snort. “There is someone else nearby who will be here tomorrow morning. But the most prudent thing would be to wait for the others; I need their resources. I will return home.”
“Very well, I understand that. And we return to what interests me: you have not told me what happened so that someone shot you and you had to run away with your children in tow. What worries me most, at the moment, is knowing who shot you.”
