“To have something else to do during the week.” She had gotten her hours as an instructor almost instantly; despite her blindness, they gave her a four-year-old course to work on “adaptation to the environment.” It seemed a little absurd to me that they would abandon their entire life in Scotland to go to that refrigerator to work with two or three patients, but I figured that they had been made an offer that was difficult to refuse, and I preferred not to comment. I also tried not to get grumpy at the implications.
That’s because I didn’t know everything yet, and she wasn’t allowed to talk much either.
