Chapter 174
Dad leaned against the door frame, blocking my exit.
The visit had come as a surprise, but my parents never turned down an opportunity to spend time with Mirko and Sasha. The idea of having them for five days made my mother very happy. However, from my father’s expression, I could sense that he had not gone up to what used to be my room to talk about the children.
“Who is going with you?” he wondered.
“Chris and La Roja. Chris wants to take her for a ride, so he will be my pilot and she will be my chaperone. Put it that way.”
“You’re going to see that woman,” he added later, with a strangely neutral tone. “And you go alone.”
I stopped tying my tie only to turn to him.
“Yes, that’s how it is. Why do you ask?”
Dad remained silent for a while, until I finished adjusting my tie and he found the right words.
“Why are you taking a chance with an ordinary woman again? You’d think that after Anya and what happened between you—”
