The grounds were ripe with anticipation. There was so much tension in the air. For the past three weeks, we’d strategized, talked, and fought over the right course of action. A week ago, we found that the vampires and terrors were moving closer to the southern borders. They were heading toward the bear shifter packs, cutting off the second-strongest shifters before coming for the King’s land.

A group of lion shifters who barely made it out with their lives brought the news with them. We rode on today.

I walked toward the camp’s shifters, readying themselves for battle—elves, fae, and seelies preparing their armor. I could see the fear in their eyes. They were all afraid. That I could see quite clearly. The tents were full, large wolves walking about. The others were scattered—some reining in the horses, others having meals, some in a circle just waiting.
