Seris’s POV
“And I hope he’s treating you well enough?” my mother asked, and when Ronan groaned, I burst out laughing.
“If he isn’t,” she threatened playfully, “I’ll kick his balls when I get back.”
“No need, Mom!” Ronan called over the phone before I could reply. “I’m doing my best.”
Mother was on a “mini vacation,” she’d said, needing time to herself.
“I asked Seris, not you!” she barked.
“He hasn’t done anything wrong,” I said, and Ronan smiled, smoothing my hair.
“All right then,” she grumbled. “Bye, kids—and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” She hung up.
Ronan set the phone aside and scooped me into his lap. His hands trailed softly down my back as I leaned into him.
