Ronan’s POV
Rogues? My nostrils flared, puzzled by their almost undetectable scent.
“Handle it,” I growled at the guard before me.
He went pale. “We need your help, Alpha.”
“I didn’t train weaklings. Handle it.” A shrill cry cut the air. I motioned for him to stand. “Report.”
“Two warriors down.”
“Down?”
“Dead.” No hesitation—I leaped into the air and shifted into my black wolf form. Noctyr took control. Around us, other wolves mirrored my move, racing for the border.
Noctyr’s growl rumbled through the air. “Why the hell are two of us dead? Did my training fail? These rogues are pathetic.”
“They’re aided externally. Their scent was masked; we didn’t detect them in time,” the guard admitted.
I said nothing more, pushing my speed to the limit. At the border, our warriors waited. I reverted to human form, they snapped into formation.
“How many of them?” I demanded.
“About fifty,” came Saelis’s calm answer. “
