Chapter 9
Seris’s POV
My heart pounded as his footsteps drew nearer. In a panic, I sprang to my feet and slipped into the shadowed corner of the cell beside Nessa, pressing my body against hers and feigning sleep. He paused in front of my cell, his scent flooding my nostrils; it was intoxicatingly rich. I heard Eirwen’s soft purr beside me.
“Wow,” she whispered. “He smells heavenly.”
I rolled my eyes but couldn’t deny it—he did smell divine, if only he behaved as gently as his fragrance suggested.
“I know you’re not asleep,” his deep voice rumbled. It was so sonorous that I nearly joined Eirwen in purring. “Come forward.”
I didn’t move.
“I said—come forward!” His voice turned into a harsh growl, and I finally obeyed. I rose and shuffled forward with my head bowed, my gaze fixed on his impeccably shined boots. They were enormous, proof of his formidable size.
