Ronan’s POV
“What exactly are we looking for?” Kaien asked, his impatience sharpening every word. “We’re running out of time!”
Eldra shot him a stern glance. “If we don’t find this, do you really think we can take her down if she attacks?”
Kaien fell silent. Ahead of us, Nessa whined for the umpteenth time. “I want to see my friend at the vampire’s mummy!” she insisted, her voice echoing through the ruins. We’d already ventured so far I was almost certain we were hopelessly lost.
I knelt at her level, smoothing her hair. “Not yet, sweetheart. The vampires are dangerous people.”
“Bu—”
“No more talk about vampires,” Ronan growled fiercely. Nessa’s complaint died on her lips, and she sank into a pout, her lower lip trembling. Ronan softened, placing a gentle hand on my hip as he leaned in. “We really need to explain the danger of vampires to her properly, mi hermosa.”
