Chapter 99
Seris’s POV
Fury. Irritation. Resentment. Every shade of rage coursed through me as I lost control. My fist drove into her face again and again while she struggled to free my sword, the blade lodged in her flesh. Her agonized cries sounded almost sweet in my ears. The force of my blows made us skid across the snow, deeper into the forest, until her back pressed hard against rocks and thorny underbrush that tore at her skin. Each new gash stung her even more.
She tried to use her healing magic, but each time her wounds knit together, I smashed them open again. Frustration flared across her face as she failed to mend herself. My knuckles were already busted and my fingers throbbed, but each strike I landed on her sent a rush of satisfaction that drowned out my own pain. Eirwen, crouched behind me, wove her delicate healing spells as soon as I was wounded, knitting torn flesh or realigning shattered bone.
