Chapter 4. The Hidden Identity
The boy went to the door and opened it. Two tall, strong men, like himself, entered and approached her. Cybele held up her hand to stop them before they reached her.
"You're not going to lay a hand on me!" She said and her voice came out threatening.
She walked between them, with the boy in front talking into the almost invisible screen in his hand. She had never liked that technology, but she avoided it for another reason. She was afraid of being tracked down by Ella.
He got into the black car, which was in a row of identical cars, and left the door open. Cybele understood that she was supposed to get in when the two security guards accompanying her stopped.
Cybele still looked around, trying to find someone she could ask for help, but the unknown street was empty.
With no other choice, she got into the car, which started moving as soon as she closed the door and the belt automatically went through her body.
"You look like you've never worn a seatbelt before..." The young man commented, seeming to enjoy insinuating that she was some kind of ignoramus.
Cybele turned her head to show all the hatred she felt through her icy gaze, but she felt the desire come stronger than her desire to attack him when she realized how close she was to him. She longed to touch his thick leg covered by the silk of his pants.
"No, Cybele. You can't touch me when we're alone. My resistance isn't as strong as it seems..." He said, guessing her thoughts and Cybele immediately crossed her arms.
"Can you read my thoughts, too?"
"You ask as if that were commonplace... You don't find anything strange about me? Nothing out of the ordinary?"
"Apart from your speed? How do I know you didn't d**g me to make me hallucinate?"
He laughed out loud and this time she managed to glare at him with hatred.
"Have you... Have you ever heard of Lunas and Alphas?" He asked as he got himself under control.
Those words were not strange to Cybele, but she couldn't remember where she had heard them. Ella had certainly never said anything about them.
"You must have felt some familiarity when I mentioned those words, right?" He asked in the face of her silence. "Alphas and Lunas are people from a tribe destined for each other. An Alpha always recognizes a Luna, if not through attraction, then through love. And it's the same with Lunas. They always recognize their Alpha. They always fall in love. They can never get involved and give themselves completely to another man."
"Nice story." Cybele said without enthusiasm. "Did your mother tell it to you to get you to sleep at night? And did it work?"
"You don't understand, Cybele. You're my Luna and I'm your Alpha."
Cybele first stared at him with wide, surprised eyes and then started laughing.
"Do you use that story in all your attempts at conquest? No wonder I'm single." She said, still laughing as she had never done before in her life. Until that moment, she had believed it impossible for her to laugh so much.
He waited patiently for her to finish before speaking again.
"You haven't heard everything yet... We're not human." He said and stared at her.
Cybele became serious and afraid. There was no escape. His eyes were the color of silver and as soon as he blinked and his eyes returned to blue, she believed he must still be under the influence of some halluc**ogen. In any case, she didn't want to talk to him anymore.
"Your silence is very annoying, you know that?"
Cybele was thinking of opening the car door and jumping out while it was still moving to get away from that crazy guy. Very handsome and attractive, but definitely crazy, when she felt his touch on her arm and turned to him without seeing him, her eyes flashing in different colors.
She saw through his eyes. She could see the woman in the photograph with her in her arms, while he stared at her from afar. She was just a baby and he must have been seven or eight years old.
Then time moved on and she saw him sitting with the woman in the photo and a few other people in a luxurious restaurant celebrating his fifteenth birthday. She could feel what he was feeling at that moment. Desire for the woman in the photo.
She saw and heard them talking about her and the walks they had taken together. They seemed happy and at ease.
Moving forward, she saw the woman in front of a tomb. The boy was holding her hand and letting her wet his face with her tears. But he was older and the hand that encircled her waist was that of a man willing to fulfill her desires.
After looking at the name on the grave, he turned to the woman and possessed her right there. She had just buried her husband, he was taking advantage of her pain.
The woman surrendered unreservedly and it was only then, faced with those images of the two of them entwined on top of the tomb, with him possessing her savagely, that Cybele had the strength to let go of his hand and interrupt that vision.
Cybele stared at him. He stared at her curiously.
"You've just had a vision, haven't you?" He asked quietly.
"You disgust me." She said with contempt and turned her face to the car window. She wanted to claw his eyes out.
But contempt and anger weren't her only feelings. She wanted him to do to her what he was doing to the woman in the photo. She was startled when she heard his voice.
"Do you still think it's a fairy tale?" He asked ironically.
She turned to him.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Yes, you do. How many girls do you know who have visions? How many whose eyes change through an infinite variety of colors?"
"You're crazy."
"Then you are too. You can't ignore how you feel about me or what you can do."
Cybele took a deep breath.
"There's something you said that wouldn't apply if I were your Luna, if that thing really existed..."
"Are you going to tell me what it is?" he asked with a smile that Cybele loved to see dying on his face as she spoke.
"Do you really think I've never desired another man as much as I've desired you? I did much more than just feel desire for another man... I fell in love with him." Cybele said triumphantly and saw his face turn as white as snow.
"That's not possible, Cybele..."
"No? If your fairy tale were real, it would be impossible. I'm sorry, strange man, but you've got the wrong girl."
He stared at her for a while and frowned.
"You're not lying. You really do feel love for another man..."
"No. I don't feel anything for him anymore. But I did for many years..." Cybele said sadly, thinking of Kevin.
The strange man smiled reassuringly as he turned to face Cybele.
"You still don't understand how this thing between Alphas and Lunas works, do you? I can feel what you feel. It's not common for a Luna to fall in love with someone who isn't the Alpha, but... Until now, none had been raised away from their natural habitat. But you should assume that you love me too, Cybele. I'll feel less bad if I hear from your mouth what I hear from your heart."
Cybele looked through the glass again.
"You're sick!" She said and realized that they were in one of the ports of that city where the fast ships were based. He would take her out of the country and there was nothing she could do to stop him. "Where are you taking me?" She asked, still not looking at him.
"I said I'd take you back home, remember?"
"Look here, stranger!" She said, turning to him when the car stopped. "I've built a life here that I'm not willing to give up! Do whatever you want with me! Use me according to your weird fantasies, but then leave me free... Please."
"You've created more fantasies about the two of us than I have. Why should I give you what you want without getting anything in return?" He asked insinuatingly.
Cybele thought he wanted her to take the initiative. But she didn't know how to do that. She had never felt the need to approach a boy for sex.
"What do you want in return?" Cybele asked to buy time, as she saw through the glass that the security guards were moving towards the car. She needed to think fast.
"First, let's correct two mistakes. It's not fair that you don't know who you are or the name of the person who's going to be your companion on this journey that's starting now." He said and held out his hand to her. "Nice to meet you, Cybele. My name is Gael, the Alpha werewolf who will take you home and give you many children."
