Chapter 29
The first thing I do, as soon as I wake up, is to go downstairs to see if my spoiled daughter has eaten dinner. I smiled to see that, despite her anger, she got hungry and went downstairs to eat something. Before going upstairs to take a shower, I prepare breakfast for both of us.
Sofia comes downstairs, already showered and in uniform, ready to leave. She eats breakfast in complete and utter silence and leaves. Today, she will go to school with a friend.
I have breakfast quietly, without too much hurry, since I don’t have to go to take her. When I finish, and I’m ready, I leave to go to Mireya’s house.
When I got there, the police had the area cordoned off. The house is shot to pieces; there’s barely a window left, and there’s smoke. Half of the house has been engulfed in flames, and the soot has stained everything black. Without getting out of the car, I call my boss, who answers me angrily.
“I called you a thousand times and you didn’t show up” and hung up
