Chapter 41. Imperial Pack Temple

Elara POV

I don’t hesitate. Slowly, I remove Zane’s arm from around me. He grumbles something in his sleep about vampires, and I have to stifle the giggle that comes from my lips. Before I exit the tent, I take one last look at them. I feel guilty for leaving, but I know the lore of the Imperial Pack. I have to do this alone. Outsiders are not welcome.

As soon as I step out of the tent, the locket begins to beat around my neck. I wander off into the trees as if I am being pulled by an invisible thread. I do not know where I am going, but the way to go is clear in my mind.

The snow crunches under my feet, and it sounds too loud. In fact, that is the only noise inside the forest. It is odd. Even at night, there would be the sound of animals or the wind nestling through the trees in a normal forest. But not here in the Forbidden Forest. There are no sounds. There is nothing but silence.
