Ares shook his head, trying to calm her. "Only for a short while. I need to make sure the area is clear. I won't be gone long, I promise."
Martina's heart raced as she processed his words. The thought of being left alone, even for a short time, was terrifying. "You can't just leave me here! What if something happens?"
Ares reached out to steady her, his expression serious. "Nothing will happen. This place is secure, and I'll be back before you know it. You know what? have my gun." Ares said opening her hand and placing his gun into her hands.
But Martina's fear was overpowering her thoughts. Without thinking, she grabbed his hand, her grip tight. "Don't leave me alone, Ares. Please."
The vulnerability in her voice caught Ares off guard. He had not expected her to react this way, especially after how stubborn she had been about leaving her house and following him. For a moment, he looked at her, his expression softening.
