"It's a bit complicated, Gabriella, my family is connected to the mafia but not in the way that you think," Sebastian explained.

"What do you think I think about this?"

"My family has been on the side helping them launder their money, but we're not part of their criminal activities," Sebastian added quickly, his eyes pleading for understanding. "We've been trying to get out of it for years, but it's not easy. They have a hold on us, and we can't just walk away."

Gabriella's mind raced with this new information. She couldn't believe that Sebastian's family was involved with the mafia. And Luca, the man who had tried to assault her, was Sebastian's brother. The connection was too close for comfort.

"Me and Luca haven't been in communication for some while now, in fact, he has not been in communication with any of our family members. I would say he took the money laundering quite seriously, he got greedy and wanted to establish something of his own," Sebastian c
