She chuckled as she moved closer to him, trying to place her hand on him again, but this time he held on to her hand. She took a deep breath as she stared at him, tears streaming down her cheeks. "You don’t want me?" She asked him, and he shook his head as he gave a pained smile.
If only she knew—if only she knew that he didn’t just want her but needed her—she would never ask this question. His body wanted him to do what she was doing. It wanted him to play along, but then his heart genuinely loved her, and he couldn’t bring himself to do this to her, not when she had this sadness in her eyes.
They were both looking into each other's eyes, and they were lost in it. She smiled at him, and even though he was hurting her hand as he held it that way, even though he wasn’t doing it intentionally, he still was, but then, staring at him and looking into his eyes, she could feel the pain dissipating.
