Chapter 229. A Familiar Tale

Claire opens her eyes slowly, squinting against the bright light in the unfamiliar room. Her head pounds with a dull, throbbing pain. As she tries to sit up, she reaches for her forehead and notices an IV drip attached to her hand. She glances around, realizing she is in a hospital bed, in one of the VIP rooms.

How did I end up here? The last thing she remembers is Ethan's revelation: her long-time best friend, Lara, whose life she had mercilessly ruined, is back and seeking revenge. Lara had been right under her nose the whole time, posing as Miss Faux. The shock had been too much, causing her to lose consciousness.

Anger surges through her as she recalls the details. Without hesitation, she disconnects the IV, not wincing at the pain. Ignoring the dizziness, she stands up, determined to leave. As she makes her way to the door, a nurse enters, looking surprised.

"Miss Claire, you can't leave yet! You need to be checked—"
