Carter stares blankly at Lara, his expression grim. It’s as though he has something to say but can’t find the words.

“Talk to me, Carter. What’s happening?” Lara’s voice trembles as she fidgets with her hands. Something is wrong. She feels it deep in her bones. A sudden thought strikes her, and her eyes widen. “Don’t tell me…”

“The mafias… they’re heading toward the kids' location now,” Carter admits, his voice strained, as if each word is a burden. “I swear, we’re doing everything we can to stop them.”

Lara’s mind spins, her heart hammering in her chest. “This can’t be happening,” she whispers, her hands trembling uncontrollably. “Not again…”

Carter steps forward, placing a firm hand on her shoulder. “Lara, listen to me.” His voice is steady, trying to cut through the panic gripping her. “We’re going to find them. I’ll make sure the kids are safe. I promise you that.”

Lara looks up, her eyes wide with a mix of terror and determ
