Chapter 283. I Want Him Back

Seeing his brother’s reaction, Dwayne’s composure cracks. His small frame shakes violently with silent sobs, and he turns toward Lara, seeking comfort.

She pulls both boys into her arms, holding them as tightly as she can, trying to shield them from the cruel reality of their painful loss.

Zayne clings to her as well, his tears finally breaking free. “I don’t want him to go,” he whispers, his voice cracking with grief. “I want Daddy back, Mummy. I want him back.”

“Oh, sweetheart, I know,” Lara murmurs, pressing kisses into their hair, her own tears mingling with theirs. “I want him back too, more than anything. But he’s watching over us now, from a place where he can’t be hurt anymore.”

Carter, standing by the kitchen counter, feels his throat tighten at the sight of the grieving family. He knew this moment was inevitable, but it doesn’t make it any easier.

He clears his throat, trying to remain composed for their sake. “Your dad loved you both so much,
