Chapter 48
We arrived at Westerton about nine in the evening and the carriages and horses were waiting, and the work of unloading the train at once commenced. Our party did not wait for the work to be done, for it was in the hands of capable people. We took the cart that was waiting, and through the darkness of the night hastened to Kellion.
We all admired the house as it appeared in the bright moonlight. a large mansion of gray stone from the Jacobean period; Roomy and spacious, it stands high above the sea on the edge of a high cliff. And as we swept the curve of the road, cut the rock, and came out on the high plateau on which the house stood, the crashing and murmuring of the waves on the rocks below came with a refreshing gust of moist sea-air. Then we realized in an instant how we had been cut off from the world on that rocky cliff above the sea.
