“He was dead,” I whispered, voice shaking. “He was dead.”
“Oh, now you’re the one scared,” Kaden said, stepping forward. The smirk had vanished. His eyes were deep and stormy. “You stabbed me in my sleep, left me for dead. I thought you were better than that, Eleanor.”
“Kaden…” I tried to plead, but my voice hitched.
He clenched his fists. “You stabbed me because you wanted to see your human relatives? Your mother?” His tone was incredulous, laced with contempt.
“I wasn’t trying to kill you. I just… I wanted to go home. I was frightened, lost. I never meant for you to die.”
His brow knitted in disgust. “You thought you could kill me and just leave? Run back to your safe little world?”
“I—” My voice cracked. “No, I didn’t want to kill you, and you didn’t die.”
