Chapter 58. Stand With Me
Panic flared in my chest at his vow. I couldn’t let our pack, our warriors, descend on this place. I needed time to figure things out first. I pressed a finger to my temple, sending the mental signal to block him. “No,” I snapped within my mind. “You can’t tell anyone. Do not alert anyone to where I am. I would rather die than for them to know what’s happening to me.”
“I can’t just leave you,” he countered, his worry sharp enough to cut glass. I understood him—I wouldn’t abandon him either, no matter the danger.
Before I could reassure him, the vampire’s voice suddenly cut through our link: “So he’s awake, then?”
I jolted in my seat, startled. “What? How did you know?” I demanded aloud, meeting Grant’s impassive gaze.
“You went still,” he observed, “and your eyes glazed over. It wasn’t hard to guess you were having a private conversation. Now be a good girl—tell him you’ll call him when we’re done talking.”
