The meeting stretched on for what felt like an eternity. Over the course of several long hours, the conference hall was filled with the low hum of voices and the rustle of papers, punctuated by the occasional clink of glassware whenever a refill was requested. Throughout it all, both Alpha Griffin and Beta Skyler fixed their attention on me as if I were the centerpiece of some elaborate painting—hawk‐eyed, unrelenting. Still, with the formal proceedings in session, neither of them could approach me directly or disrupt the flow of the meeting. That small mercy allowed me to slip into the background and focus on my duties instead of worrying over their watchful stares.
