Chapter 87. The Link Unbroken
Staggering into a seated position, I fought for breath. Pain radiated through me, but beneath it all, a triumphant pulse swelled. I’d survived. I’d defended what was ours.
Alpha pushed himself to his feet, staggering slightly as adrenaline ebbed from his veins. He crossed the room and snatched the liquor bottle once more, tilting it back in a single glug. He wiped his mouth with a sleeve and stared at me, bewilderment replacing cruelty. “It can’t be,” he muttered.
My own legs felt unsteady as I rose. I met his gaze—eyes bloodshot but fierce. The realization hit him as it had me: he had failed to destroy our bond. Not only that, but he couldn’t have taken her physically, either.
Which could mean only one thing. Daniel was stronger than him.
