I ground my teeth. “Can you help me find Hazel?”

“I can ask around.”

“I don’t want it to be obvious, Xavier. I want to fly under the raider.”

“Relax, I’ve made friends in here. Including the nurses. It’ll be fine.”

“I’m going to my room,” I murmured.

Xavier shook his head. “Go to mine. We’re not allowed to be in each other’s rooms, so that’ll be the last place they’ll look for you. Clearly, they’re hunting you.”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Do you see any of the nurses around?”

I shook my head.

“There’s a code red. An escaped patient.”

I swallowed a lump in my throat. “That’s just great,” I said sarcastically.

“Just go. I’ll find your little friend and we’ll iron out the details of the plan.”

I couldn’t believe I was making a plan with Xavier.

“I’m expecting a reward from Alex for bringing his little mate.”

“Watch it, Xavier, I’ll leave you behind.”
