“I was so worried you guys wouldn’t come. Leiah got here early, but that was only because she wanted first dibs on the gowns here,” Emery rambled.

I felt like each second carried by time went in slow motion. The hallway was crowded with people. Their footsteps echoed, and their breathing beat down on me.

“The dresses are gorgeous, but so expensive. Good thing, Gareth told me I could get whatever I wanted on his bill! Can you believe it?” Emery went on.

I tried not to look at the men and women who passed directly, but it was hard. I could hear their whispers before they even walked past us.
