“They’ve found us!” I gasped breathlessly, watching the wolf escape. He would surely warn them of our presence if he reached his pack. Carl picked up his weapon to shoot it, but before he could do so, a bullet pierced the wolf’s body and it fell to the ground. It was so sudden, we were left dumbfounded.
