Chapter 4
Mia sighed dreamily as she bit down on her lips, lost in her thoughts. Pots banged around her, and plates hissed as they were being thrown carelessly into the washing bowl, but she could hardly hear any of the commotion going on in the kitchen around her.
Pat, one of her mother’s maids, hissed as she walked past Mia. “Mia, what are you doing?”
Mia started and blinked, frowning in confusion at the scowl on Pat’s face. She hated that Pat felt she could talk to her as she liked because she was older, without minding that her mother owned the inn. Mia knew her mother would only laugh if she complained about how Pat treated her. Her mother was too humble for her liking, and that was why someone like Pat felt like she could scowl unnecessarily at her.
