Chapter 7
The first thing he heard was the swish of a skirt and the soft footsteps of a human. He sniffed the air, and his body tensed at the realization of who was there. His guard went up as he wondered what she was looking for until he smelled the things with her, and he relaxed. He considered hiding from her, but he could sense her determination and knew she wouldn’t give up until she found him.
“Ah,” he sighed. His night was unbearably getting too long.
She smiled as she got to where he was and sat beside him, setting the package she had brought. He looked at the basket of food, a bowl of hot water, a napkin, and a salve and wondered how she had managed to carry all those with her fragile hands.
He glanced at her hands as if to convince himself that she was actually as fragile as he had believed. He told himself not to be stupid. She was the daughter of an inn owner and would have been doing activities like that since she was young.
